Camp Overview
A new summer basketball camp is set to begin at Ansonia Middle School, running from July 13 through August 3. The program welcomes boys and girls who will be entering third grade up through high school, regardless of skill level.
Founded by Trayon Rumley, who also serves as an assistant men’s basketball coach at the University of New Haven, the camp emphasizes not only athletic improvement but also leadership and character building.
Each day of the camp includes a mix of skill drills, shooting instruction, ball‑handling work, defensive fundamentals, and sessions designed to boost basketball IQ. Competitive games and mentorship moments with experienced coaches are woven throughout the schedule.
Organizers are actively looking for collaborations with local businesses and community organizations to sustain the initiative and broaden its reach.
Residents of Ansonia can attend at no cost by presenting proof of residency, while the camp remains open to all interested participants from the surrounding region.
Community Impact
Beyond the court, the camp seeks to develop well‑rounded young athletes who gain confidence, discipline, and a sense of belonging. By partnering with local stakeholders, the program hopes to reinforce a shared commitment to youth development in the Valley.
