Savannah will host a special tribute on Saturday, July 18, as the city marks the 11th Annual Historic Carver Village Reunion with a dedicated celebration of former professional football player Anthony M. Lanier II.
Honoring a Community Champion
Lanier, who earned a reputation as a tenacious defensive end, spent his NFL career with the Washington Commanders, Los Angeles Chargers, Kansas City Chiefs and New Orleans Saints before concluding a four‑year stint in the Canadian Football League with the Toronto Argonauts. He announced his retirement just days before the reunion, ending a decade‑long journey on the gridiron.
Off the field, Lanier devotes his energy to youth empowerment through the Undefeated Warrior and AML2 Foundation, which sponsors football camps, educational field trips, turkey drives and assorted fundraisers aimed at supporting underserved families.
The reunion will feature live entertainment, a lineup of family‑friendly activities, community resource booths, youth engagement programs, food vendors and cultural performances that highlight the vibrant heritage of Carver Village.
Organizers say the day is meant to honor Lanier’s athletic achievements while shining a spotlight on his ongoing commitment to mentorship and service, reinforcing the idea that sports can be a catalyst for broader social uplift.
