Troy University has named Anthony Winchester as its newest assistant coach for the men’s basketball program, tapping a coach whose résumé includes an Elite Eight run with Kansas State and a decade‑long professional playing career.
Elite Eight Experience at Kansas State
During a four‑year stint in Manhattan, Winchester helped the Wildcats to a 61‑win stretch that featured back‑to‑back postseason appearances and victories over multiple Top 25 opponents, including seven wins against Top 10 teams. His contributions were pivotal in one of the nation’s top turnarounds during the 2022‑23 season.
Before arriving at Kansas State, Winchester honed his craft at several programs, serving as video coordinator at Southern Miss, director of basketball operations at Pacific, and graduate assistant at Loyola Marymount. He began his coaching journey as a graduate intern and director of operations at Western Kentucky, where he also excelled as a standout player.
Winchester’s playing career spanned professional stints in Spain and Puerto Rico, where he earned LEB Gold Player of the Year honors in 2013 and concluded his career in Spain’s top division, the ACB. He graduated from Western Kentucky with a bachelor’s degree in sociology/criminology in 2006.
At Kansas State, he played a key role in developing All‑Americans Markquis Nowell and Keyontae Johnson, and helped assemble nationally ranked recruiting and transfer classes. His experience includes shaping four additional All‑Big 12 performers and fostering a culture of high performance.
Troy hopes to leverage Winchester’s blend of elite playing experience, developmental expertise, and organizational know‑how to elevate its competitiveness in the Sun Belt. The hire aligns with the program’s ambition to attract top talent and contend for conference success in the coming seasons.
