A night of missed opportunities
The Austin Peay State University women's soccer team suffered a 3‑0 defeat on Thursday night at Korte Stadium, where SIU Edwardsville opened the scoring early and never looked back.
SIUE struck first in the sixth minute when forward Claire Nieroda slipped a shot past APSU's defense, and added a second before halftime, with Olivia Watt finding the net in the 40th minute to make it 2‑0.
The second half saw the visitors extend their lead in the 58th minute as Tori Bockstadter capitalised on a defensive lapse, sealing a comfortable margin for the Cougars.
Despite the scoreboard, APSU's sophomore goalkeeper Megan Waskiewicz turned in a career‑high eight saves, keeping the Lady Govs within striking distance for much of the match.
Veteran net‑minder Sarah Bozeman also contributed with several key stops, including a diving save on Kayla Barr's attempt and another on Kerigan Kivisto's strike, but the offense could not find a response.
APSU's attacking chances were limited; shots from Abby Mathews, Kylie Brandes and Kiley Reese tested the SIUE backline but failed to break through.
The Lady Govs will look to rebound when they travel to Finley Stadium on Sunday, where they are scheduled to face the Chattanooga Mocs at noon Central Time.
