Arrest and Charges
Brendan Nichols, a 27‑year‑old defensive tackle for the Pennsylvania Benjamins arena football team, was taken into custody on Tuesday after a dramatic sequence of events that began with a shooting in Cleveland, Ohio.
According to investigators, Nichols is alleged to have forced his way into a residence on Lee Avenue, brandished a rifle and fired at a victim, resulting in serious injuries. The incident prompted a swift response from local law enforcement.
A warrant for Nichols’s arrest was signed by the Cleveland Police Department on April 1, authorizing authorities to detain the player on felony assault by firearm charges.
The search culminated in the early morning hours at a hotel in Cumru Township, Pennsylvania, where Nichols was found alongside several teammates. He was subsequently transported to the Berks County Prison, where he is being held on a $1 million bail pending extradition.
Marshals from the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force assisted in the apprehension, underscoring the multi‑agency effort required to track a suspect who had crossed state lines.
Nichols’s legal team has indicated that they will contest the charges, while the Pennsylvania Benjamins have scheduled their next match for May 23 in Cincinnati, Ohio, a game that will now proceed without their star defender.
