Arion Carter, the Tennessee Volunteers' standout linebacker, will miss the first two games of the 2026 season after the NCAA imposed a suspension.
The sanction stems from a minor infraction involving a $427 flight paid for by Carter's agency during the NFL Draft process, a case the governing body deemed a violation of eligibility rules.
Coach Josh Heupel publicly voiced his disagreement with the ruling, emphasizing that the punishment was disproportionate to the offense.
Despite the setback, Carter has elected to remain at Tennessee for his senior year, where he will graduate this August with Dean's List honors in public health, adding a scholarly accomplishment to his athletic résumé.
A Deep Defensive Corps
The Vols have bolstered their inside linebacker unit with Penn State transfer Amaree Campbell, who brings 103 tackles from the Nittany Lions, and retain veterans Edwin Spillman and Jeremiah Telander, while emerging talents such as Jaedon Perlotte, Jadon Harmon and Brayden Rouse add youthful vigor.
Although Carter will be absent for the season opener against Furman and the early road test at Georgia Tech, the coaching staff believes the breadth of talent ensures a smooth transition.
