Arizona Wildcats Set for Historic Lithuanian Basketball Tour

Exhibition games against top Lithuanian clubs and the national team highlight a cultural exchange

A Historic Meeting of Basketball Cultures

The University of Arizona men's basketball team will arrive in Lithuania between August 14 and 23 as part of the USA College Lithuania Tour, a series of exhibition matches designed to foster international competition and cultural dialogue.

During the visit the Wildcats are scheduled to face three Lithuanian sides, among them the senior national team that boasts a storied history in European basketball.

Mindaugas Balčiūnas, president of the Lithuanian Basketball Federation, described the upcoming fixtures as a historic moment that underscores the growing ties between the two basketball cultures.

Tommy Lloyd, head coach of the Wildcats, said he is eager to test his squad against elite competition and to immerse the players in Lithuania’s rich basketball environment.

The itinerary includes stops in Kaunas and Palanga, where the team will play its first two games before moving to additional venues such as Jonava, Kedaninai and Alytus for the remainder of the tour.

Motiejus Krivas, a sophomore center who previously starred for Žalgiris Kaunas before joining Arizona, is expected to bring a familiar presence to the court, having averaged 10.4 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game last season.

Rimas Kurtinaitis, head coach of the Lithuanian men’s national team, expressed enthusiasm about the prospect of facing top college talent ahead of the crucial qualifying window for the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

Beyond the on‑court action, the tour is viewed as a platform for cultural exchange, giving the Wildcats a chance to experience Lithuanian traditions while strengthening diplomatic bonds in the sport.

The upcoming matches will also serve as an early gauge for both teams as they prepare for the next phase of international qualification, promising competitive games and memorable experiences for fans in Lithuania and abroad.
