Arkansas baseball head coach Dave Van Horn and his longtime assistant Bobby Wernes have both secured new multi‑year agreements that lock in substantial financial commitments from the university, underscoring a decisive push to sustain the program’s recent surge.
Van Horn’s contract, set to run through the 2031 season, guarantees him $2.1 million per year, a figure that reflects his 25‑year tenure and the Razorbacks’ three SEC championships and eight appearances at the College World Series.
Wernes, who transitioned from a former Razorbacks third‑baseman to a full‑time coach in 2024, will see his salary climb from $155,000 to $180,000 over the life of his deal, which extends through 2028, marking a 21.6 percent raise that places him among the highest‑paid assistants in the SEC.
The trio of full‑time assistants—Wernes, Matt Hobbs and Nate Thompson—will collectively surpass the $1 million mark in compensation for the first time, a 47.1 percent increase over the previous season and a milestone that signals the university’s growing investment in its baseball infrastructure.
A Vision for the Future
With the new financial framework in place, the Razorbacks aim to translate increased resources into on‑field dominance, targeting deeper runs in the NCAA Tournament and ultimately a championship that would cement Arkansas’s place among the collegiate elite.
