Summer Tour Begins
The Arkansas Razorbacks opened their BahaMar Hoops Summer League campaign with a dominant 106‑59 victory over the Bahamas national team, a result that set an upbeat tone for the foreign tour.
Coach John Calipari, who is guiding the Razorbacks on their first overseas trip since taking the helm, used the exhibition to experiment with chemistry among eight freshmen and two transfers, emphasizing that the tour is as much about cohesion as it is about competition.
Carleton University, the reigning Canadian national champions, arrived in Nassau for their first appearance in the league, bringing a disciplined, veteran squad that will test Arkansas’s new‑look lineup.
The NCAA’s recent rule change now permits teams to schedule summer foreign trips on an annual basis, a shift that has opened the door for programs like Arkansas to use these excursions as a developmental tool rather than a rare occurrence.
Eligibility and Health Concerns
Among the Razorbacks, standout freshman Miikka Muurinen remains sidelined pending NCAA clearance, while guard Isaiah Sealy nurses a knee injury; nevertheless, both are expected to practice and contribute to the team’s preparation for the upcoming clash with Carleton.
Jeremiah Wilkinson, who suffered a head injury during a dunk in the Bahamas game, returned to the court the following day, participating in warmups and signaling his readiness to feature against the Ravens.
Although Calipari will not patrol the sidelines during games, he will be present at pre‑game, halftime and post‑game meetings, while assistant coach Chin Coleman will take charge of the team on the court against Carleton, a role he previously filled in the win over the Bahamas.
The two programs share a historical footnote: former Ravens assistant Dave Smart, now head coach at Pacific, once guided Arkansas to a 91‑72 victory in Calipari’s inaugural season, adding a subtle narrative thread to Thursday’s matchup at the BahaMar Convention Center.
