Arkansas Razorbacks Head to Bahamas for Baha Mar Summer Hoops League

Young roster, new transfers and Coach John Calipari’s vision as the team prepares for a high‑stakes preseason trip

The University of Arkansas men’s basketball team will depart for Nassau, Bahamas, on July 31, where it will take part in the Baha Mar Summer Hoops League, a preseason tournament that runs through August 4.

During the trip the Razorbacks are slated to meet four opponents: the Bahamas national team, Carleton University of Ottawa, Colombia’s Toros del Valle, and the University of Calgary. The matches will serve as an early gauge of the team’s chemistry and a chance for fans to glimpse the revamped lineup.

A Young Roster Takes Shape

Coach John Calipari has emphasized that this season’s squad will be among the youngest in the nation, a fact that reflects a wave of transfers and draft entries. New arrivals include Furman center Cooper Bowser and Georgia guard Jeremiah Wilkinson, while redshirt forward Paulo Semedo will return after a solid previous campaign.

The roster also features five committed freshmen — Jordan Smith, Abdou Toure, Miikka Muurinen, JJ Andrews and Maper Maker — who will join the program next year. Returning wing Isaiah Sealy, however, will miss the Bahamas stint as he recovers from knee surgery, and center Nick Pringle has exhausted his eligibility.

Several veteran players have moved on. Meleek Thomas, Trevon Brazile and Darius Acuff were each selected in the NBA Draft, while Karter Knox, D.J. Wagner, Karim Rtail, Jaden Karuletwa, Elmir Dzafic and Malique Ewin have entered the transfer portal. Knox has pledged to Louisville, Wagner to Maryland and Dzafic to Connecticut, illustrating the ripple effect of the NBA draft on college programs.

The upcoming games will also test the team’s depth against strong competition. Carleton University captured the Canadian national title last season, and Toros del Valle won the Colombian Apertura, ensuring that Arkansas will face seasoned opponents in Nassau.

Beyond the on‑court action, the trip is designed to foster camaraderie among the young players and to give the Razorback fan base an early look at the new era under Calipari. The experience is expected to shape the team’s identity heading into the regular season.
