A Day of Play and Promise
Nearly two hundred youngsters from across Northwest Arkansas gathered at Kessler Mountain Regional Park on August 22, 2026, for a free baseball camp that blended instruction with community spirit.
Twelve members of the University of Arkansas baseball team served as counselors, guiding the children through drills in fielding, hitting and base running. The staff included a mix of six returning Razorbacks and six newcomers — pitchers and position players who have recently joined the program from other universities.
The camp culminated in an autograph session where the Razorbacks signed memorabilia for every participant, turning the final moments into a shared celebration of the sport.
Nolan Souza, an Arkansas senior infielder, reflected on the experience, calling it an “awesome day” to give back to the kids and to see the next generation’s enthusiasm for the game.
Marta Hobbs, secretary of the Champions for Youth Foundation’s board, outlined the organization’s broader mission, noting plans to donate equipment, award scholarships and expand access to baseball and softball through future clinics, a fall softball event and partnerships with groups such as the Miracle League in Springdale.
Beyond skill development, the camp acted as a team‑building exercise for the players, reinforcing their commitment to community engagement and highlighting the region’s deep passion for baseball that extends beyond the diamond.
