The Arkansas Razorbacks will open their season against the North Carolina Tar Heels in the annual SEC‑ACC Challenge, meeting on Dec. 1 at the Dean Smith Center in Chapel Hill. The game marks the first time the two programs will clash on the Tar Heels’ home floor, adding a fresh layer of intrigue to a series that has favored North Carolina 8‑3 overall.
A Revamped Tar Heel Squad
First‑year coach Michael Malone inherits a largely new‑look roster. The Tar Heels have lost Caleb Wilson and Henri Veesaar to the NBA and have seen several players transfer out, but they have bolstered the lineup with incoming transfers Terrence Brown, Neoklis Avdalas and Matt Able. A five‑man freshman class, ranked No. 15 nationally, arrives alongside veteran returners Billy Richmond, Isaiah Sealy and Paulo Semedo.
Arkansas, meanwhile, has made its own moves. After a 3‑0 start in the SEC‑ACC Challenge that included wins over Duke, Miami and Louisville, the Razorbacks have added portal commits Cooper Bowser and Jeremiah Wilkinson while seeing forwards Trevon Brazile and Nick Pringle exhaust their eligibility. Guard Karter Knox, D.J. Wagner and Karim Rtail have entered the transfer portal, with Knox committing to Louisville, Wagner to Maryland and Rtail to Connecticut.
A Busy Non‑Conference Calendar
Beyond the Chapel Hill showdown, Arkansas will test itself against Michigan State in Detroit on Thanksgiving and travel to Phoenix to meet Arizona on Dec. 19. North Carolina’s schedule also includes a matchup with Arizona and a later contest against Michigan State in the same city, while the Tar Heels will face a series of former conference rivals such as Duke, Miami, Louisville and Oklahoma State throughout the early season.
The upcoming games will also be shaped by NBA draft decisions. Players like Meleek Thomas and Darius Acuff have declared for the NBA Draft, while others such as Karter Knox, D.J. Wagner and Karim Rtail remain in the portal, influencing roster planning for both schools as they prepare for a demanding stretch of non‑conference play.
