A 51‑year‑old man from Arlington, Virginia, was taken into custody in early August after a disturbing episode that unfolded on a school basketball court.
What Happened on the Court
According to police, Adrian Dwight Taylor got into a verbal altercation during a pickup game at Gunston Middle School’s gymnasium in July, retrieved a handgun from his vehicle and opened fire on the court where several juveniles were playing.
No injuries were reported and there was no property damage, but investigators say multiple rounds were fired toward an occupied court, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.
Taylor fled the scene before officers arrived and was apprehended the following morning on August 17 while in possession of a firearm as a convicted felon.
Charges and Detention
He now faces nine felony counts, including attempted malicious wounding and shooting on school property, and is being held without bond at the Arlington County Detention Facility.
Detectives continue to examine whether additional victims were impacted and are reviewing surveillance footage from the 1400 block of 28th Street S. and the 2400 block of S. Army Navy Drive.
Authorities have not released the names of any potential victims and are working to determine if anyone else was harmed by the gunfire.
