The Army Black Knights are gearing up for a major overhaul as they welcome a record‑breaking 72 new players into the 2026 roster.
Of those newcomers, 48 arrived from the U.S. Military Academy Preparatory School, while the remaining 24 come directly from high schools in 22 different states, ranging from New York to California and Texas.
The influx began on Monday, June 29, when the freshmen reported for Reception Day and immediately entered the annual summer cadet training regimen.
A Nationwide Talent Pool
Preseason practice is slated to commence on August 5, a full month before the season opener on September 5 against Bryant, giving the new cadets ample time to integrate.
The current squad stands at 201 athletes, composed of 54 sophomores, 40 juniors and 35 seniors, a balance that head coach Jeff Monken says positions the team well for competition.
Last season the Black Knights finished 7‑6, highlighted by a victory over Connecticut in the Fenway Bowl in Boston, setting a positive tone heading into the new cycle.
The incoming class spans a wide array of positions — quarterback, running back, wide receiver, offensive line, defensive line, linebacker, safety, cornerback, kicker, punter and long snapper — ensuring depth across the field.
Head coach Jeff Monken has voiced enthusiasm for the group, emphasizing their leadership qualities and athletic achievements that he believes will translate quickly to the collegiate level.
With a geographic spread that includes representatives from every corner of the country, the new cohort reflects the academy’s commitment to recruiting talent nationwide while maintaining the rigorous standards of the military program.
