The Aspen High School baseball team saw its remarkable season come to an abrupt close on Tuesday night, falling 5-4 to Elizabeth in the Class 3A Region 4 final. The defeat marked the end of a campaign that had placed the Skiers among the most successful in program history.
Despite the loss, Aspen finished the year with a 20-4 overall record, having earned the No. 4 seed and hosted the regional tournament before being upset by the seventh‑seeded Elizabeth squad, which now advances to the state tournament as the No. 7 seed.
Track and Field Highlights
The state championships also delivered a series of bright spots for the Roaring Fork Valley, with Basalt senior Towler Scott placing fifth in the 3200‑meter run and sixth in the 1600‑meter event, showcasing the depth of local talent.
Freshman Scarlett Jones earned a fifth‑place finish in the 800‑meter run for Basalt, while Aspen junior Annabelle Case finished eleventh in the same distance, underscoring the breadth of achievement across the valley's programs.
Other notable performances included Aspen junior Kayla Steele’s sixteenth‑place showing in the 3200‑meter run and senior Sydney Barill’s eighteenth‑place finish in the 100‑meter hurdles prelim for Basalt, rounding out a strong showing for local athletes.
