Community impact
Atlanta United, the MLS franchise based in Atlanta, is set to distribute more than $120,000 worth of soccer equipment to youth organizations across Georgia, marking one of the largest gear donations the club has undertaken.
The initiative is carried out in partnership with Good Sports, a national nonprofit that connects athletes and sports brands with underserved communities. By leveraging Good Sports' logistics network, Atlanta United can ensure that the donated cleats, jerseys, and training cones reach the programs that need them most.
Dozens of volunteers gathered at a warehouse on a recent Saturday to sort, inspect, and pack the gear. The hands‑on effort required meticulous inventory management, as each item had to be accounted for before shipment.
Among the volunteers was Greg Garza, a former member of the U.S. Men’s National Team who retired from professional play several years ago. Garza’s presence added a personal touch, as he recounted his own youth soccer experiences and encouraged participants to view the donation as a stepping stone toward future opportunities.
Local organizations such as the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta and several community soccer leagues will receive the supplies. Officials say the equipment will enable programs that serve hundreds of children who might otherwise lack access to proper gear, thereby expanding participation in the sport.
The donation forms part of a multi‑year commitment by Atlanta United to invest in grassroots soccer development throughout Georgia. Club leaders have emphasized that supporting youth programs is central to building a sustainable talent pipeline and fostering a deeper connection between the team and its fan base.
