Atlantic Coast Academy has just rolled out a groundbreaking girls ice hockey program, debuting with an exhibition game in North Adams that drew attention from across the hockey world.
The match featured two standout goalies — Lorelai Foley, a rising talent from Seattle, and Ramona Putreniece, representing Latvia — who helped showcase the program’s international flavor.
Guiding the new initiative is Jess Conlon, appointed director of the girls hockey program after stints coaching in Arizona, now overseeing both the 16U and 19U squads.
The 19U team already boasts an NCAA Division I commit, Miriam Toet-Uddveg from Norway, who has pledged to continue her career at RPI, adding a global dimension to the roster.
A High‑Intensity Showdown
In a thrilling on‑ice battle, the 18U National Team edged out the 16U side, underscoring the competitive depth already present in the fledgling program.
The event also served as a tribute to Liam Lescarbeau, a local player battling T‑cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, whose family was honored on the ice.
Atlantic Coast Academy’s recruitment philosophy emphasizes students who excel both academically and as community leaders, a mission reinforced by its partnership with the prestigious Darrow School.
Founded in 2022 by Mike Taylor, the academy has grown from 45 committed players to a full girls program comprising 29 athletes, reflecting a rapid expansion of interest.
The program’s hockey culture thrives thanks to proximity to multiple rinks and nearby colleges, positioning the academy as a hub for enthusiasts seeking both sport and scholarship opportunities.
