The Owen Sound Attack announced Tuesday that they have inked 2026 first‑round CHL Import Draft pick Roderik Cernak to an OHL Scholarship and Development Agreement, a move that bolsters the team’s defensive corps ahead of the upcoming season.
A Strategic Addition for the Attack
Standing at 6‑foot‑3 and weighing 215 pounds, Cernak brings a blend of size and physicality that coaches have long sought. The Slovakian defenceman previously skated for HC Slovan Bratislava U20, where he recorded 14 points over the regular season and honed a aggressive, shutdown style that emphasizes strong positional play.
Cernak said he is eager to join the Attack organization and contribute right away, noting that the prospect of playing in the OHL represents a major step in his development.
Team President Tyler Nother praised the new signing, highlighting Cernak’s dedication and the physical brand of hockey he embodies. “We’re excited to welcome a player of Roderik’s caliber,” Nother said in a statement.
Head Coach Keenan Reynolds added that Cernak’s aggressive defensive approach will complement the existing group, and that the team expects him to be a reliable presence on the blue line from day one.
Cernak becomes the second CHL Import Draft draftee the Attack have signed this off‑season, joining fellow import Lucian Bernat, a move that underscores the club’s commitment to building a competitive, internationally flavored roster.
Looking Ahead
With the new agreements in place, the Attack aim to translate their strengthened defensive lineup into a deeper playoff push. Fans can look forward to seeing how Cernak’s physical style meshes with the team’s dynamic forward group as the season unfolds.
