Auburn University's baseball program is set to welcome the nation's top college teams to Plainsman Park this week, serving as the host site for the NCAA Regional Tournament.
A Regional Home Advantage
The Tigers arrive with a collective 3.45 earned run average that ranks them third among all Division I teams, a testament to a pitching staff that has been dominant throughout the season.
Pitching Rotation Takes Center Stage
At the front of that rotation is senior right‑hander Jake Marciano, who has been named the starter for the opening contest against Milwaukee. Marciano brings a 2.64 ERA and a league‑leading 81.2 innings pitched in 2026, giving the team a reliable anchor.
Joining him are junior left‑hander Andreas Alvarez and sophomore right‑hander Alex Petrovic, each boasting sub‑3.50 ERAs and impressive strikeout totals. Alvarez has fanned 102 batters while maintaining a 3.30 ERA, while Petrovic limits opponents to a .207 batting average, the best mark among starters.
If the competition extends to a fourth game, the coaching staff can turn to either Marciano or reliever Jackson Sanders, who has posted a 2.66 ERA from the bullpen, to keep the momentum in Auburn's favor.
Head coach Butch Thompson has emphasized the importance of depth and flexibility, noting that the staff's ability to rotate arms will be a key factor against opponents such as NC State and UCF.
Beyond the mound, the team's offensive outlook remains strong, but it is the pitching depth that many analysts predict will be the decisive element as the tournament unfolds.
