The coaching staff turned to the transfer portal to replenish the rotation, ultimately landing right‑hander Brayden Bergman, a former Baylor prospect who brings a 97 mph fastball and a full four‑pitch mix.
A high‑velocity addition
Bergman announced his commitment on Sunday via X, ending a brief stint in the portal that began on May 9 after two seasons at Baylor. The Texas native entered the 2024 recruiting class as the state's top pitcher, but a lingering injury limited his freshman campaign and forced him to miss most of the 2025 season. In 2026 he appeared in 21 games, throwing 22 ⅓ innings with 26 strikeouts and a 5.64 ERA, while opponents batted .215 against him.
The move underscores Auburn's intent to rebuild a pitching staff that struggled with consistency last year. Thompson emphasized that the program's portal strategy was driven by the need to replace departed arms, and Bergman's arrival is the centerpiece of that plan. Alongside him, the Tigers will welcome five high‑school signees, though two of those prospects may be drafted before they ever set foot on campus.
Returning veterans such as Jake Marciano, Andreas Alvarez, Jackson Sanders and LJ Cormier give the rotation a foundation of experience, while Bergman's high‑octane repertoire is expected to raise the overall ceiling of the staff.
