A challenging road ahead
The 2026‑27 SEC basketball schedule was released on Monday morning, laying out a demanding slate for the Auburn Tigers as they chase their first NCAA Tournament appearance after capturing the NIT championship last season.
Head coach Steven Pearl, now in his second year at the helm, is banking on the momentum from the NIT title to push the program forward. Pearl will rely on veteran presence and the emergence of former Tiger Elyjah Freeman, who is slated to meet Auburn in a Texas showdown on Jan. 12 or 13.
The schedule features several marquee matchups, including the Iron Bowl of Basketball against Alabama on Jan. 30 and a trip to Lexington to face Kentucky at Rupp Arena on Feb. 27, marking the first visit to Lexington since 2025.
Other key contests include a road game at Texas A&M in College Station, a battle with the Tennessee Volunteers in Knoxville, and a home finale against Alabama on March 6. The regular season will wrap up before the SEC Tournament in Nashville, which runs from March 10‑14, offering the Tigers a final chance to solidify their tournament résumé.
