The Draft's Ripple Effect
Auburn's 2026 baseball recruiting class has been reshaped by the recent MLB Draft, a factor that has dropped the Tigers to No. 15 in the national rankings and No. 10 within the SEC.
The class still brings ten newcomers, among them high‑school standouts John Stowers and Levi Nickoli, who join a group that will also feature five fresh pitchers to replenish the mound.
The departure of three top prospects — Coleman Borthwick, AJ Rice and Jace Mataczynski — has been felt, but each signed professional contracts: Borthwick with the San Diego Padres for $3.8 million, Rice with the Tampa Bay Rays for $822,500, and Mataczynski with the Boston Red Sox for $2 million.
SEC Landscape
The SEC continues to dominate the draft‑adjusted rankings, with Vanderbilt holding the conference’s top spot, followed by LSU, Tennessee and Texas in the top five, while Mississippi State, Florida, Arkansas and Kentucky round out the top ten.
Auburn now sits alongside Alabama and Oklahoma in the top 20 of the SEC, while Ole Miss and Texas A&M complete the conference’s representation at No. 21 and No. 24, respectively. The Tigers hope the incoming talent will keep them competitive as the season approaches.
