Audrey Ericksen arrived at North Carolina State in the fall of 2023 with a clear ambition: to join the Wolfpack as a walk‑on guard and earn a spot on the roster. A senior guard from Cary, she brought with her a high school record as the all‑time leading scorer at Green Level High School.
After a standout career at Green Level, Ericksen transferred from Boston University seeking a fresh platform. Within weeks of practice, Coach Wes Moore recognized her contributions and, in a move that caught many by surprise, presented a bill covering tuition, room and board — an amount totaling roughly $30,000.
Before the paperwork could be finalized, Moore tore the bill in half and announced that Ericksen had been awarded a full scholarship, a moment that sparked hugs and cheers from her teammates, a reaction she later described as her favorite part of the experience.
A Scholarship That Speaks Volumes
The gesture reflects a broader culture at NC State where player development is paired with tangible investment in each athlete’s future. It also dovetails with the program’s recent push to return to the NCAA Tournament, a stage the Wolfpack have not missed since 2016.
With the financial burden lifted, Ericksen says her next objective is straightforward: help the Wolfpack secure a tournament berth and continue building on the momentum that has defined the program in recent years.
