A New Chapter for Augusta Hockey
The city of Augusta is set to welcome a new professional hockey franchise that will begin ECHL competition in October 2027, marking the first time the league has expanded into the heart of Georgia's sports scene.
Co‑owners Tim Tebow and David Hodges have positioned the team as a community‑focused venture, promising a blend of entertainment and local pride that extends beyond the rink.
Construction of the Augusta Arena is advancing on schedule, with Cedric Johnson, chairman of the Augusta‑Richmond County Coliseum Authority, confirming that the project remains on time and within budget, ensuring a ready venue for the franchise's inaugural season.
The team’s branding was shaped by public input, with the name Lynx emerging from a majority vote; the logo incorporates green, yellow, black and white to reflect the region’s natural palette.
As an official affiliate of both the NHL and the AHL, the Lynx will participate in a development system that has already launched 768 players into the premier league, and will host 36 regular‑season home games each year.
The ECHL, founded in 1988‑89 with five clubs, has grown into a 30‑team league spanning 23 states and one Canadian province, serving as a vital feeder network for the NHL’s 32 franchises.
