The Aurora Greenmen finished the 2025 campaign with a 6‑4 record, yet the team fell short of the postseason for only the second time in two decades. A series of narrow defeats kept the season alive on the edge, with every loss decided by ten points or fewer except for a decisive defeat at the hands of Highland.
A roster poised for resurgence
Quarterback Luke McGovern and running back Ryan Ziegler emerged as the cornerstone pieces for the Greenmen heading into 2026. Their performances last season hinted at a breakout year, and coaches are betting that the duo will anchor a more aggressive offensive scheme.
The Suburban League realignment reshaped the Greenmen’s slate. Traditional rivals Highland and Roosevelt no longer appear on the schedule, while longtime non‑league opponent Tallmadge remains but in a different capacity. The shift forces Aurora to adapt to new competitive dynamics and travel patterns.
Among the most notable changes are four fresh opponents slated for the 2026 calendar: Stow‑Munroe Falls, Riverside, Mayfield and Kenston. The Greenmen will also meet Brecksville and Twinsburg again, recalling a recent series in which the Beavers edged Aurora in Weeks 2 of both 2022 and 2023.
Despite the setbacks, the coaching staff remains optimistic. With a blend of returning starters and the added experience of McGovern and Ziegler, the team aims to translate close games into victories and secure a postseason berth next fall.
