Cornell University revealed this week that Austin Keiser has been appointed director of hockey operations and video coordinator for the Big Red men's hockey program, a move that blends his playing pedigree with a deep well of professional coaching experience.
Keiser arrives after two seasons as goaltending coach and video coordinator for the ECHL's Toledo Walleye, where he helped shape the team's defensive strategy while overseeing video analysis for player development.
His career trajectory includes four years directing goalie development for the Nashville Jr. Predators' 18U AAA program, a stint as a goaltending coach with the ECHL's Atlanta Gladiators, and leadership roles in several junior hockey organizations such as the Milwaukee Junior Admirals and Milwaukee Power.
A path forged on the ice
Keiser's journey began in college, where he played between 2012 and 2016 at SUNY Potsdam and Western New England, earning a bachelor's degree in psychology and garnering three SUNYAC Goaltender of the Week honors and two All‑Academic Team selections.
He launched his coaching career as an assistant at Western New England (2016‑17) and Trine University (2017‑18), later serving as head goalie instructor for CAN/AM Hockey and Pro Crease Goaltending before moving into full‑time roles with junior programs.
Beyond club hockey, Keiser spent time with the ECHL's Toledo Walleye, where his dual focus on on‑ice performance and video analytics proved valuable to the team's growth.
A new chapter for Cornell hockey
Cornell Head Coach Casey Jones highlighted Keiser's professional‑level experience as a key factor in the hiring decision, noting that the new director will help elevate the program's operational standards and video resources.
Keiser himself expressed enthusiasm for joining the Big Red, stating his gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to Cornell's storied hockey tradition and to work alongside a dedicated team of student‑athletes and staff.
The appointment underscores Cornell's commitment to building a modern, analytically driven hockey program that leverages both on‑ice expertise and advanced video preparation.
