A Proven Record of Excellence
Tennessee baseball announced this week that Austin Knight will serve as its new pitching coach, taking over from Josh Reynolds, who has been promoted to Director of Baseball Operations & Pitching Performance.
Knight arrives after a five‑year tenure at East Carolina University where his staff posted an AAC‑leading earned run average for three consecutive seasons, highlighted by a 4.23 ERA in 2026.
Under his guidance, the Pirates recorded 589 strikeouts while limiting opponents to a .242 batting average, and five pitchers earned All‑American honors.
Nine players from ECU were drafted during Knight’s time in Greenville, including 2024 first‑round pick Trey Yesavage, who made his MLB debut in 2025 and started Game 1 of the World Series for the Toronto Blue Jays.
Knight’s playing days at Ole Miss from 2012 to 2015 and early coaching roles at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and Louisiana Tech laid the groundwork for his strategic approach to pitcher development.
What This Means for the Volunteers
The Volunteers hope the new coach’s proven record will translate into a stronger pitching rotation and deeper postseason runs for the program.
Knight’s teams at East Carolina not only topped the conference in ERA but also set a benchmark for consistency, a trait that Tennessee’s coaching staff believes will be crucial as the Volunteers aim to compete at the highest level of college baseball.
Fans and analysts alike are watching closely to see how Knight’s philosophy will mesh with the existing roster and what immediate impact he will have on the team’s performance.
