A Versatile Talent
Austin Miller, a 6‑foot‑5, 200‑pound wide receiver from Bellflower, California, announced his commitment to Ohio State on Wednesday, securing a spot in the 2029 recruiting class. The pledge makes him the newest five‑star prospect to choose the Buckeyes, joining a select group of early‑commit standouts.
Miller’s high school résumé reads like a Swiss‑army knife. As a freshman he caught 35 passes for 609 yards and eight touchdowns, while also rushing 85 times for 883 yards and 13 scores. On defense he posted 36 tackles, eight tackles for loss, four sacks, four pass breakups and a fumble recovery, showcasing the two‑way versatility that attracted multiple Power Four programs.
The Ohio State coaching staff praised the recruit’s athleticism and work ethic. “Austin brings a rare blend of size, speed and playmaking ability,” said a senior assistant coach. “He fits perfectly into our offensive scheme and will be given every opportunity to contribute early.”
Miller’s recruitment journey was closely watched by several national programs. Oregon, USC and Miami all expressed strong interest, but Ohio State remained the only school to host him on an official visit. The Buckeyes’ early offer, followed by continued engagement, ultimately sealed the deal.
The commitment also reverberates beyond a single player. It reflects a broader trend in which top prospects lock in scholarships before their senior year, a pattern that has become almost routine for Ohio State in recent years. The program has secured a five‑star receiver each season since 2019, reinforcing its reputation as a destination for elite talent.
Among the other names on the radar is Malachi Toney, a fellow California prospect who remains uncommitted but is expected to make a decision later this year. Both players illustrate the depth of talent emerging from the state’s high schools.
