Austin Okoye, a native of Nigeria who grew up chasing a soccer ball on dusty streets, has turned his passion into a summer program that is drawing attention across the region.
From Scholarship to Summer Camp
After a standout highlight reel caught the eye of Skidmore College’s men’s soccer coach Jeremiah Keeland, Okoye earned a full scholarship and arrived in the United States ready to blend his African roots with collegiate soccer.
Since graduating in 2018, he has spent years mentoring youth teams, refining a coaching philosophy that prizes footwork, consistency and the joy of the game.
Sabicoach’s Summer Sessions
In 2020 he launched Sabicoach, a coaching platform that now runs two week‑long camps at Gavin Park, offering full‑day and half‑day options for children from U8 to U18.
The upcoming sessions, scheduled for July 27th‑31st and August 3rd‑7th, will feature coaches from England, Jamaica and Ukraine, bringing diverse techniques to the field.
Okoye describes the camps as a place where skill development meets fun, aiming to challenge each participant while keeping the atmosphere light and supportive.
Parents can register online at sabicoach.com, where they can also explore the curriculum and secure spots for their children.
