Austin Peay State University announced that junior quarterback Chris Parson has been crowned the United Athletic Conference Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, highlighting the Governors' strong outlook for the upcoming 2026 campaign.
Preseason Accolades Highlight Depth
Parson, who transferred into the starting role, posted 3,003 passing yards with 23 touchdowns through the air and added 14 rushing scores, underscoring his dual‑threat versatility.
His performance earned him third‑team All‑American recognition from both Stats Perform and FCS Football Central, reinforcing the conference’s confidence in his abilities.
The Governors will open the season on August 27 against Gardner‑Webb at Fortera Stadium, a venue that has become central to the team’s home‑field identity.
Alongside Parson, three other Austin Peay standouts — senior tight end Jackson Head, junior receiver Jaden Robinson, and senior offensive lineman Joshua Sales Jr. — were also named to the preseason All‑UAC squads.
Head’s 2025 production included 22 receptions for 303 yards and two touchdowns, while Robinson contributed 43 catches for 579 yards and six scores, illustrating a deep receiving corps.
Sales Jr.’s recent inclusion on the 2026 Stats Perform FCS Preseason All‑America Team reflects the coaching staff’s belief in his protective line work as the offense prepares for its first full season under new coordinator Jeff Faris.
Coach Draylen Ellis praised the blend of experience and youthful talent, noting that the team’s chemistry has been cultivated during offseason workouts and spring practices.
The upcoming matchup against Gardner‑Webb promises to be a litmus test for the Governors, who aim to translate preseason accolades into on‑field victories.
