Austin Peay State University’s women’s basketball coach Brittany Young unveiled the 2026‑27 nonconference schedule on Tuesday, laying out a demanding slate that blends seven home dates at Gary Mathews Court at F&M Bank Arena in Austin, Tennessee with a series of road trips that will take the Governors across the southeastern United States.
The season opens on the road with a November 2 contest at Campbell University, marking the program’s inaugural meeting with the Camels, while the home opener follows on November 6 against Southeastern Baptist, the first time the Governors will host that opponent. Historically, the team has posted a 19‑31 record in season‑opening games since 1976, but a 28‑22 mark in home‑opening games shows a modest improvement when the action begins on familiar turf.
Schedule Highlights
Early in the schedule, the Governors will enjoy a four‑game homestand that begins with matchups against Chattanooga on November 19 and Evansville on November 28, before welcoming Kansas City on December 3 and UIC on December 5. These home dates are interspersed with a five‑game road stretch that starts on November 11 with a trip to Central Florida, the third encounter with the Knights since 2016, and continues through a series of new opponents including Bellarmine, Murray State, Lipscomb, Missouri and Missouri State.
The longest road swing of the year arrives in December, featuring four games outside Tennessee: Bellarmine on December 9, Murray State on December 13, Lipscomb on December 16, Missouri on December 20 and Missouri State on December 22. This stretch not only tests the squad’s depth but also highlights a historic rivalry, as the Governors hold the most victories (50) and the most meetings (98) against Murray State, a program that has been a staple of their nonconference slate.
After the December flurry, the schedule winds down with games against Queens on December 31 and West Florida on January 2, before the United Athletic Conference slate begins with a road test at Eastern Kentucky on January 6. In total, the 2026‑27 nonconference slate presents the Governors with eight different opponents for the first time in program history, including Campbell, Southeastern Baptist, Missouri State, West Florida, Abilene Christian, UT Arlington, Little Rock and Tarleton State.
With an all‑time record of 114‑110 against this specific nonconference lineup and a broader 165‑174 mark overall, the Governors enter the season poised to build on their 50‑win advantage over Murray State while navigating a schedule that promises both home‑court advantages and challenging away environments.
