A Monday Deadline Like No Other
Because the Colorado Avalanche are on a road trip, they will not be present at the deadline itself. Their itinerary includes a game in Chicago the night before the deadline, a scheduled day off on March 1, followed by a matchup in Nashville, and then a back‑to‑back set in San Jose on March 4 and March 7.
After the deadline the team will return home for a contest against the Philadelphia Flyers on March 9, marking their first home game after the flurry of moves.
Colorado’s front office, led by general manager Chris MacFarland, has been aggressive in recent deadlines, completing a series of high‑profile acquisitions and departures that have reshaped the roster over the past three years.
In 2024 the Avalanche traded Bowen Byram and Ryan Johansen and added Casey Mittelstadt, Sean Walker, Brandon Duhaime and Yakov Trenin. The following season they bolstered the forward group with Charlie Coyle, Brock Nelson and Ryan Lindgren. In 2026 the club added Nic Roy and Nazem Kadri down the middle, along with defensemen Nick Blankenburg and Brett Kulak.
