Ayla Erickson, an incoming junior at Juneau‑Douglas High School, has emerged as the driving force behind her club’s latest triumph. The 09 Girls of Cook Inlet Soccer Club entered the 2026 US Youth Soccer U17 National Championship as contenders, but it was Erickson’s leadership and skill that propelled them to the top of the Premier division.
The tournament, held in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, tested the team’s resilience. Facing sweltering heat and strict substitution limits, the squad fought through each match, ultimately securing the championship after a series of decisive performances.
Coach Praises Versatility and Grit
Rich Bailey, the club’s head coach, praised Erickson’s work ethic, coachability and her ability to influence the game in multiple roles. He noted that her opening goal in the final and her overall contributions were pivotal to the team’s success.
The championship was a collective achievement. In addition to Erickson’s three goals and one assist, three of her teammates earned Golden Ball, Golden Boot and Golden Glove honors, reflecting the depth of talent within the group that has trained together since their U6 years.
Looking ahead, Erickson hopes to continue her soccer career at the collegiate level. The club will also advance to the U17 Super division next season, a move that underscores the program’s growing reputation and the bright future of its players.
