Camp Progress in Mild Weather
The Aztecs completed their second week of fall camp under clear skies that kept temperatures in the low to mid‑70s. Practices incorporated a full slate of activities, from special‑teams work to one‑on‑one drills and situational offensive‑versus‑defensive periods, giving coaches a comprehensive view of player readiness.
Key Interior Linemen Lead the Charge
The interior defensive line emerged as a focal point, anchored by returning starter Malachi Finau alongside Krishna Clay and Amari Comier, who together logged 13 starts and 53 total tackles last season. Adding depth, transfers Gavriel Lightfoot and Tuaoa Tauili’ili bring proven production, while freshmen Koi Taiese and Roman Paseka are expected to contribute immediately.
Coaching Emphasis on Physicality
Head coach David Lose repeatedly stressed the importance of mentality and physicality in the trenches, noting that the line’s success will hinge on relentless effort and leadership. He praised the collective talent of Finau, Clay, Comier and Tauili’ili, and expressed optimism about the untapped potential of the newcomers.
Schedule and Ticket Updates
The Aztecs will host a ‘First Saturday at Snapdragon’ scrimmage on August 15, a prelude to the season opener against Portland State on September 5. The slate also includes contests with James Madison, Texas State, Fresno State, Washington State and Utah State. In tandem with the on‑field goals, the athletic department announced a reduction in season‑ticket pricing to $175, with a $150 entry point for members, aiming to broaden fan access.
