Sioux Falls Hosts Babe Ruth Midwest Plains Regional Tournament
The Babe Ruth Midwest Plains Regional Baseball Tournament opened this week in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, drawing more than 40 teams and 650 players between the ages of eight and sixteen.
The opening ceremony, held just before the Sioux Falls Canaries game, celebrated the tournament’s place in the league’s 75th anniversary and set the stage for four days of competition at Harmodon and Pasley Parks.
Athletes and their families traveled from Colorado, Minnesota, Missouri and North Dakota to take part, underscoring the event’s regional reach.
Local Leaders Praise Facilities and Hospitality
Midwest Plains Region Commissioner Michael Solanik highlighted the city’s modern facilities and warm reception, noting that Sioux Falls was chosen for its central location and strong hospitality infrastructure.
Tyson Waddell, the league’s South Dakota commissioner, played a pivotal role in securing the venue and was honored as the volunteer of the year during the ceremony.
Economic Promise for the City
Organizers estimate the tournament will inject up to a million dollars into the local economy, providing a welcome boost for businesses and service sectors.
City officials say the event’s success could pave the way for future editions, with discussions already underway about returning to Sioux Falls in coming years.
