Baboucarr Ann, a 6‑foot‑7 forward from the class of 2027, announced his commitment to the University of Wisconsin in late June, cementing a recruiting coup for the Badgers.
Ann, who shattered his high school’s single‑game scoring record in January, said the decision felt like a natural extension of his personal ties to the state, describing Wisconsin as “family” and “home.”
The connection grew from a long‑standing relationship with senior guard Brad Davison, who was the first coach to reach out after Ann’s record‑breaking performance. Their bond, forged through shared roots in Maple Grove, played a pivotal role in the recruit’s final choice.
Ann’s pledge arrives alongside that of Jalen Brown, marking the first time in Greg Gard’s tenure that Wisconsin has secured two top‑100 prospects in the same class. The duo joins a recruiting haul that also includes teammate Jack Thelen, who committed earlier in June, and Nolan Winter, another Minnesota standout.
A Family Decision
During a visit to the Badgers’ showdown against Ohio State on January 31, Ann noted the faster pace of play and the electric energy of the crowd, experiences that reinforced his gut feeling that Madison was the right fit.
He outlined his development goals, emphasizing a desire to become a defensive‑first, energy player while improving his shooting, ball‑handling and physical strength.
Off the court, Ann praised the university’s culture, its player development system, and the unwavering support of Badger fans, all of which contributed to his decision.
