The Wisconsin Badgers women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against Marquette University at the McClimon Soccer Complex on Saturday, in front of a crowd of 1,327 — the second-largest attendance for a Badgers match since 2001.
From the opening whistle Marquette struck first, registering their initial shot in the seventh minute, but Wisconsin quickly answered with a blocked effort by Anya Gulbrandsen in the 13th minute.
First Half Dominance
Wisconsin controlled the opening half, outshooting the Golden Eagles 6-2 overall and 2-1 on target, while goalkeeper Drew Stover made a single save and Mia Hurd faced two shots before the break.
The Badgers continued the pressure after the interval, firing three attempts in the first six minutes, one of which was denied by Hurd in the 51st minute.
A pivotal moment arrived in the 67th minute when a foul on Hurd inside the box awarded Wisconsin a penalty kick; Erin Connolly stepped up and converted to put the Badgers ahead 1-0.
Marquette's Late Equaliser
The Golden Eagles responded in the 79th minute when Kaylie Sheehan found the net, leveling the score at 1-1. Jenna Baumann's subsequent shot was saved in the 81st minute, and Kiara Gilmore's corner kick in the 87th minute drifted wide.
Overall, Wisconsin finished with a 15-5 shot advantage, a 6-3 edge in shots on goal, and a 5-4 corner kick lead, while Stover recorded two saves and Hurd made five for Marquette.
The teams will meet again on August 30 for Wisconsin's senior day celebration against UIC, a match that will be streamed live on B1G+.
