The University of Wisconsin–Madison announced this week that former Ohio State linebacker Curtis Grant Jr. will assume the role of Director of Player Development for the Badgers, a move that underscores the program’s intent to deepen its ties with a championship pedigree.
Grant, who was a member of Ohio State’s 2014 national championship squad, brings a blend of collegiate success and professional experience after a brief stint with the New York Giants in 2017. Though a knee injury cut his NFL career short after the 2017 season, his reputation as a tenacious defender preceded him into the locker room and now into the administrative arena.
His appointment is part of a broader reshuffling of the Badgers’ football operations this offseason. Alongside Grant, the staff will see Morocco Brown elevated to general manager, Bradie Ewing taking on the role of Director of Player Engagement, and Darius Hicks named Director of Player Personnel. Meanwhile, Chris Worley transitions to an on‑field capacity, coaching the nickel corners as an assistant defensive back.
The connections that facilitated Grant’s hiring trace back to his Ohio State days, where he played under head coach Luke Fickell. Fickell, now the Badgers’ head coach, has long valued the leadership and work ethic that Grant demonstrated as a Buckeye, and he sees the new role as a natural extension of that trust.
Industry observers note that the infusion of former Buckeye talent reflects a strategic effort to leverage shared experiences and networks.
