Ball State University announced that its president, Geoffrey S. Mearns, has been selected to serve on the College Football Playoff Board of Managers, the body that steers the national championship’s business, budgetary and policy decisions. He will represent the Mid‑American Conference, taking the seat previously held by Satish K. Tripathi.

Mearns arrives with a résumé that spans multiple public‑institution presidencies. Before moving to Ball State, he led Northern Kentucky University and held a similar role at Cleveland State University, where he also served as a federal prosecutor with the U.S. Department of Justice.
His academic roots trace back to Yale University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in English, and the University of Virginia, where he completed his law degree, foundations that have informed his approach to governance and public service.
