Regional Finals Set for Saturday
The final stretch of the Maine high school baseball season is set for Saturday, when the Class A North championship will pit Bangor against Oxford Hills in a clash that could decide the state champion.
Morris’s Final Chapter
Bangor’s longtime coach David Morris, who has guided the Rams to eight regional championship appearances in nine years and captured four regional titles and two state championships, says he intends to retire after these two games.
Oxford Hills, led by coach Shane Slicer — who was recently named coach of the year — has fought its way through the bracket, defeating Brunswick and Hampden Academy, and boasts a lineup that includes Cam Pulkkinen, Gunner Truman, Finley Cavers, Colton Jendrick and Carter Davis.
Bangor’s roster features standout players such as Gavin Glanville‑True, Kyle Johnson, Jacoby Harvey and Matt Turcotte, while Turcotte and Lucas Rutherford have taken over the top‑of‑the‑rotation roles after Zac Cota’s season‑ending injury.
Other Regional Matchups
The regional finals also include other matchups — Hermon versus Cony, Washington Academy against Mattanawcook Academy, and Fort Fairfield versus Bangor Christian — while the South title games will see Cheverus face Noble, Fryeburg Academy take on Greely, Monmouth meet Maranacook, and Richmond play Telstar.
With the state championship scheduled for Saturday, the excitement across Maine’s baseball circles is palpable, as teams vie for the final crown before the season concludes.
