A New Defensive Anchor Joins the Hawkeyes
Bariyus Allen, a 6‑foot‑5, 300‑pound defensive lineman from Dayton, Ohio, announced his commitment to the University of Iowa on social media, securing a spot in the Hawkeyes’ 2027 recruiting class.
Standing out at Dayton’s public schools, Allen recorded 73 tackles, 20.5 tackles for loss and six sacks during his junior season, earning Defensive Player of the Year honors in the league.
After a weekend visit to Iowa City, Allen weighed offers from Boston College, Western Kentucky, Kent State, Miami (Ohio), Northern Illinois, Ohio and Toledo before deciding on the Hawkeyes, a choice that reflects both the program’s trajectory and his personal connections.
His addition brings the third defensive lineman into Iowa’s 2027 class, bolstering a front line that could reshape the team’s defensive outlook in the coming years.
Coaches praise Allen’s size, technique and work ethic, projecting him as a potential anchor on the defensive line and a future contributor on special teams.
