Barrett Dexheimer Commits to UMass Hockey for 2026‑27 Season

Edina native brings USHL experience and a championship pedigree to the Minutemen’s defensive corps.

The University of Massachusetts announced Tuesday that defenseman Barrett Dexheimer will join the program for the 2026‑27 campaign, marking the first addition to the incoming freshman class.

Standing at 5‑11 and 176 pounds, Dexheimer shoots left and is known for his poise on the blue line, bringing a blend of size and skill to the Minutemen’s defensive unit.

His junior career in the United States Hockey League spanned two seasons with the Muskegon Lumberjacks and Des Moines Buccaneers, where he logged 117 games and contributed 26 points, including a ten‑point stretch during the Lumberjacks’ run to the 2025 Clark Cup Championship.

Dexheimer was a key teammate of Václav Nestrašil and Jack Galanek during that championship season, and he capped his high school career at Edina High with a Class AA state title in 2023‑24, earning All‑Tournament honors.

A Defensive Boost for the Minutemen

Coach Greg Carvel praised the acquisition, noting that Dexheimer’s experience in high‑pressure games will complement the team’s defensive strategy as the program looks to build on recent successes.

The addition signals a deliberate effort by the Minutemen to reinforce depth on the back end, positioning the squad for a competitive showing in the upcoming season.
