The Diamond Baseball League (DBL) made history by presenting its first-ever Most Valuable Player award, naming Grand Island native Broxton Barrientos as the inaugural MVP.
Barrientos dominated the season with a .382 batting average, clubbed three home runs and drove in 41 runs, while posting a .978 fielding percentage in the outfield.
His all-around contributions earned him a spot on the DBL All-Star team, where he joined teammates Sawyer Slade and Jude Stewart, both of whom also received recognition.
A new chapter for the DBL
Sawyer Slade was named Hitter of the Year after delivering a .377 average, 11 home runs and 55 RBIs, while Jude Stewart rounded out the All-Star lineup with his own standout performances.
The league’s inaugural season awards highlighted a wave of emerging talent, signaling a promising start for the DBL as it looks to build on this early success.
