A New Era for Aggie Pitching
Barry Enright, a veteran right‑hander who spent parts of a decade in Major League Baseball, has been named the new pitching coach for Texas A&M's baseball program. The university announced the appointment on Tuesday, positioning Enright to lead a staff that has struggled to find consistency in recent seasons.
Enright's résumé includes stints as a pitching coordinator for the Oakland Athletics and coaching roles with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Angels. He also represented Great Britain at the 2019 European Baseball Championship and earned a reputation for developing young arms during his time in the Diamondbacks' system.
He replaces Jason Kelly, who was dismissed last week after a tenure that produced a 5.24 ERA and an 84th‑national ranking in earned run average. The Aggies tied Arkansas for the SEC lead in home runs allowed with 90, a statistic that underscores the need for improved pitching guidance.
Athletic director Ross Bjork praised Enright's blend of playing experience and coaching acumen, stating that the hire aligns with the program's ambition to climb the national rankings and compete more aggressively in the SEC. The move was first reported by TexAgs.
Enright, a native of Stockton, California, brings a personal connection to the game and a fresh perspective that the university hopes will translate into better strikeout‑to‑walk ratios and tighter control on the mound. His diverse background, from baseball to a victory in the 2020 TPC Champions Classic of the Outlaw Tour, adds a unique dimension to his coaching philosophy.
