The first-ever Battle on the Coosa flag football tournament unfolded at the Wetumpka Sportsplex, gathering teams from Wetumpka, Carver, Baldwin County, Holtville and Stanhope Elmore in a celebration of youth sport and community pride.
Coaches Slade Holley of Holtville and Kashundra Davis of Stanhope Elmore stood on the sidelines, each emphasizing the grit and adaptability their squads have displayed as they embark on a brand‑new season.
Resilience in the Face of Adversity
Holley praised his roster’s resilience, noting that the team has played six games with a reduced lineup after several players attended church camp, yet the players have continued to improve and compete fiercely.
Davis, guiding the Mustangs’ inaugural flag football squad, highlighted the team’s ability to respond positively to adversity, pointing to incremental gains after tough early matchups against Carver and Wetumpka.
The schedule will next see the Mustangs face JAG on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at 5 p.m., a date that marks another milestone for a program that only fielded its first team this year.
