Hundreds of Baylor supporters converged on the Allison Indoor Practice Facility this weekend for the university’s annual “Meet the Bears” gathering, a ritual that blends excitement for the upcoming season with a deep sense of community.
A Tradition of Community
Attendees brought an array of memorabilia — posters, jerseys, helmets, and even a handcrafted pillow — to be signed by the team’s roster, turning the practice field into a bustling marketplace of nostalgia and hope.
Among the crowd was Patsy Humphries, a devotee of the program since she relocated to Waco at age 21, who presented a distinctive pillow she had acquired at a Cracker Barrel location, inviting players to add their marks across its surface.
The pillow quickly became a canvas for the entire squad, with one athlete even resting his head upon it as teammates signed their names, a moment that encapsulated the personal connections forged through the event.
The gathering not only celebrated past glories but also set the stage for the Bears’ season opener, scheduled for September 5 in Atlanta against Auburn, a matchup that promises to extend the tradition’s reach to a national audience.
Fans left the facility with signed keepsakes and a renewed sense of anticipation, confident that the camaraderie displayed that day will carry forward into the team’s campaign.
