The University of Cincinnati women's soccer squad dropped a 1-0 decision to Ball State on Sunday at the Briner Sports Complex in Muncie, Indiana. The Bearcats entered the match with a 1-2-1 record and left with a narrow defeat that underscored both their attacking potential and defensive lapses.
Junior forward Tiana Campbell opened the scoring chances within the first two minutes, launching the team's first shot of the game and marking her first start of the season. Cincinnati's early pressure translated into a 5-1 shot advantage in the first half, yet the ball refused to cross the goal line.
First Half Dominance
Despite outshot Ball State five to one, the Bearcats were unable to convert any of their chances, leaving the half‑time board level.
Decisive Blow in the Second Half
Ball State broke the deadlock in the 48th minute, slipping a goal past Cincinnati's netminder to claim a 1-0 lead. The Bearcats responded with five more attempts in the final 42 minutes, but a combination of stubborn defending and a lack of precision kept the score unchanged.
Six Bearcats — Ally Gilbert, Anna Barber, Karson Yon, Emma Gioffre, Amber Branum and goalkeeper Amber Brandon — completed the full 90 minutes, highlighting the team's endurance despite the loss. Freshman Jade Dubois made her collegiate debut in the match, adding depth to the front line. Cincinnati will look to rebound when they travel to face Central Michigan on Thursday, September 3, at 7 p.m. at the CMU Soccer/Lacrosse Complex in Mount Pleasant, Michigan.
