Opening Victory
Bellbrook High School’s Golden Eagles opened their season with a 27-14 win over Tippecanoe, capping the game with two late touchdowns that turned a close contest into a comfortable margin.
Coach Jeff Jenkins described the team’s evolution from a collection of individuals to a tightly knit family, a bond he says was forged during intense preseason work and that showed up in both offensive rhythm and defensive intensity.
Senior running back Jack Kosins was the centerpiece of the attack, scoring two touchdowns and breaking a 34‑yard run in the fourth quarter that helped seal the victory. His performance has already drawn praise as one of the most dynamic players in Division III across the state.
The offense got on the board early when Grant Diorio plunged into the end zone from eight yards out in the first quarter, and he later connected with Kosins on a two‑point conversion after a seven‑yard touchdown run, underscoring the team’s versatility.
A lightning delay briefly halted momentum, but Bellbrook’s defense answered the challenge, forcing a turnover on downs just 45 seconds before halftime. That play set up the final scoring drive that put the Eagles ahead for good.
Both squads now turn their attention to Week 2, with Bellbrook traveling to Bellefontaine and Tippecanoe heading to Piqua, marking the last scheduled meeting between the traditional rivals until a future rematch.
