A strategic hire for the Bruins
Belmont University announced this week that Paige Schumann will join the women's basketball staff as an assistant coach, bringing a blend of playing experience, administrative training and on‑court leadership to the program. Head coach Bart Brooks praised the addition, noting that Schumann’s deep familiarity with the team’s systems will help sustain the momentum built over the past two seasons.
During her tenure as a graduate assistant, Schumann coordinated opponent scouting, designed practice plans and managed the logistics of game day, roles that directly supported the Bruins’ 46‑win campaign and their run to the championship game of the 2025 Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament.
From player to coach
Schumann’s journey to this role began at Eastern Illinois before she transferred to the University of Wisconsin‑La Crosse, where she started every game she appeared in and amassed nearly 500 points, 250 assists and over 200 rebounds. Her consistent performance earned her a place on the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All‑Sportsmanship Team.
The new coach recently completed a Master of Sport Administration at Belmont, a credential that sharpened her strategic perspective and reinforced her commitment to the university community.
A commitment beyond the court
Off the hardwood, Schumann has volunteered as a basketball coach for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and served as a referee for Special Olympics, experiences that underscore her belief in using sport as a catalyst for youth development and community engagement.
