The Belmont University women's soccer team traveled to Lynn Stadium on a crisp Sunday afternoon, only to see their hopes of a positive result dissolve in a 5-0 loss to the Louisville Cardinals.
Early Lead for Louisville
Amelia Swinarski opened the scoring in the 10th minute, slipping a low strike past Belmont's defense to put the Cardinals ahead.
Megan Miller tested the Bruins shortly after with a curling effort, but goalkeeper Brielle Baker sprang into action to preserve the narrow margin.
Second Half Surge
Louisville doubled their advantage in the 26th minute, extending the lead to 2-0 and forcing Belmont to chase the game.
Before the break, Banin Patterson tried to rally the Bruins with a shot that was comfortably denied by Baker, leaving the score still at 2-0 at halftime.
The final fifteen minutes saw a flurry of attacks from the Cardinals, who added three more goals to seal a 5-0 victory.
Belmont's own Greta Genie, the MVC goalkeeper of the week, made six saves throughout the match, but the relentless pressure proved too much.
After the final whistle, Belmont's record slipped to 1-2-1, and they will look to rebound when they host Marshall on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. CT at E.S. Rose Park.
